Useless.
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I had high expectations, based on all the reviews. Sad to say, this unit delivered exactly… nothing.

I am in a major metro, very flat area, about 10 miles from the broadcast antennas, no obstructions, no aluminum siding or other induction hazards to degrade the signal. I worked in telecom for 20 years so I’m a more little savvy about electrical signals and line-of-sight than the average guy. I hooked it up right. I scanned correctly.

I plugged this turkey in and got exactly one snowy signal, so bad I could barely tell what language it was being broadcast in. It did not matter where in the house I placed the antenna, how high or low (I even took it outside!), the signal was complete crap. I even took it across the street and hooked it up to my neighbor’s TV, same thing. One piddly snowy channel.

I returned this unit, and and buying a Winegard outdoor antenna to pick up the 30+ channels my neighbor gets on HIS antenna.

Makes my portable TV more portable
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
How well an antenna works depends largely upon location and also the sesitivity of the tv tuner. I’m less than 15 miles from the transmission towers (in Northern NJ) and I’m using this with a 10″ Haier portable tv. The whip antenna that came with the tv proved useless. I was able to get fairly good reception with an older rabbit ear style antenna and a signal amplifier. However, a bulky old style antenna is difficult to move around with a portable tv. With the RCA Ant1650 I’m able to get reception as good as the old rabbit ears in a much more compact package. I was able to scan in all the channels in my location by sticking the RCA Ant1650 partially out the top of a 2nd floor window which faces the broadcast towers. Once scanned in, I’m able to get fairly good reception on most channels in just about any location around my house. In fact, I can get many without the included signal amp attached.I could not (in my location) use this antenna in a fixed position such as hung on a wall and expect to receive all the channels. I do have to manipulate it a bit for different channels. Since, I’m using it with a portable tv for only occasional use this works fine for me. If I was doing all my tv viewing from over the air signals I would invest in a good outdoor antenna; which would be more likely yield easier, carefree viewing.

Set Back For TV 20 Years
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The indoor RCA TV antenna for HD TV’s has set my TV back 20 years! If it is raining, windy or traffic busy, the signals are so weak, my TV cannot be heard or watched. I watch very little TV but am angry at whoever bragged about how great HD TV is! I prefer that my TV is mobile (on cart with wheels). When entertaining, it is rolled somewhere else in my house. Yes, I could install cable connection but this and other methods are expensive and not very flexible. I have GMA on right now and it is like damaged records skipping. Absolutely Awful. Until someone builds a better TV antenna with less expense, I will boo HD TV!

It’s good for what it is
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
It’s good for whta it’s supposed to do. The pisture quality is excellent, but the range limits its usefulness.

Over the Top!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve purchased roughly 100 items from Amazon in the last 5+ years, and I’ve been pretty happy with 99.9% of these products. I have to say this is the single best item I’ve received for doing EXACTLY what it says it will do. I thought I’d get a few slightly ‘fuzzy’ local selections at best, but I was pleasantly surprised by this unit. My entertainment center isn’t on a wall with windows, or even near windows, for that matter, and this antenna works perfectly as stated. I set it on top of the cabinet housing my TV, with no adjustments, and it picked up 11 local channels from where it rests, one of which came from Canada across Lake Erie (do I need to go through customs?). Several of these are as close to HD as I’ve seen via cable, let alone through an INDOOR antenna. This product deserves a rating of 6 stars in my opinion, as it has exceeded my expectations, and goes above and beyond normal performance.
