Great customer service

Ordered this lamp from Discount DLP TV Lamps. It arrived quickly and seemed perfect, but one week after installing it the lamp suddenly blew out. I contacted Discount DLP TV Lamps and they told me to return it using the enclosed UPS return sticker for warranty replacement. It only took one week for the round trip to get a new lamp. I had this happen once before with a different TV and different model lamp, so I’m not blaming Discount DLP TV Lamps for the failure, but do give them kudos for their quick, friendly and efficient customer service and I would do business with them again.

This was super easy to change. Just follow the instructions….took 10 minutes. Remember to re-set your TV’s counter for the new lamp. Much less than a service call!

lamp works but beware description- know what you’re getting
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
When I first got this, I was upset, but it was because I made a poor assumption that is not necessarily supported by the product description. I think I jumped to conclusions just from the fact that I know the official xl-5200 sony uses is the phillips brand one, and there are several different listings for this same lamp on amazon- some show the phillips brand in the picture, others don’t. I thought I had ordered the phillips one, but the product title/picture here doesn’t actually say that. It does call it a Sony xl-5200 though, which doesn’t exist if they mean sony manufactured, and is untrue if they mean Sony OEM since that would be the phillips. The product description in the body does also say “Sony’s xl-5200 replacement” which it really isn’t…it’s meant to replace the sony, but this product isn’t sony’s or phillips’.

I have to take some points away for the misleading description (although this might be a case where there’s only one description and some sellers actually sell the real deal while others sell generic knockoffs). For the record, I bought from discount DLP TV Lamps, so if you’re buying from them and expect OEM, I would ask and make sure first. Being charged name brand price for a knockoff bothers me a bit, and that is partly their fault, but mine too for making assumptions, so I can’t drop the rating for that…

As far as the lamp, it works. It will probably take more time to see how well it does- I imagine the generic brand is why some people’s lamps are failing early (warranty is only 6 months). Lamp is easy to put into your existing housing- if you know how to use a screwdriver, don’t bother paying the extra 30 bucks to get one in the housing, it’s a waste. There’s only one screw holding the housing together, and two wires going to the bulb itself- one held with a screw, the other a bolt you can just unscrew/screw with your fingers. It’s dead simple.

A good purchase

If you’re planning on buying a lamp online from this dealer, have no reservations. I was concerned that the lamp may be damaged or there would be a problem with shipping but, i had no problems at all.

The lamp had excellent, damage-proof packaging and was delivered on time. For my TV, KDS-50A2020, installation was a breeze. Don’t have the TV serviced for this very simple replacement. If u can change a battery for a kids toy, u can change this lamp. From what i could find, Amazon’s price was WAY cheeper than any where else for this particular lamp.

As far as eco-friendleness goes… its not so green. Its full of mercury and not the most eco-friendly device. The replacement instructions list Certain eco-friendly measures that should be taken to dispose of the used lamp correctly.

This is the right choice!

I searched on the Sony website and many other websites for the proper and legitimate OEM. Always very hard to do and to decipher. This is the real deal, OEM, inexpensive and very reasonably priced. Get it, and you will be happy. I am ecstatic. I thought I was getting “psyched” and getting only the bulb. I got the whole bulb and the plastic housing. Cheaper than from Sony.
